VERNON & JACKSON TO MAKE ‘A’ TEAM DEBUTS PDF Print
Wednesday, 12 November 2008

ImageGlasgow Warriors duo, flanker Richie Vernon and fullback/stand-off Ruaridh Jackson, will make their Scotland ’A’ team debuts at Firhill on Friday night.

Two other players will also make their first international appearances at the home of the Warriors, hooker Phil Fitzgerald and prop Geoff Cross. Fitzgerald, who captains French Top 14 side Toulon, will make his first appearance in a blue jersey since representing Scotland U21 eleven years ago.

Anticipating a tough yet exciting international against Georgia, head coach Andy Robinson said: “We’re treating Friday night’s game as a full Test match because we are facing a full international side.

”The four new caps all deserve their debuts because they’ve all impressed with their clubs this season. This is their chance to prove that they can make that step up from club level to the international arena.

Jackson will make his 'A' team debut having captained the Scotland U20 just last season.
“Despite having four new faces, there are some very experienced heads in the 22, ten of which already have international honours. These are the guys I’m looking to lead from the front and prove how hungry they are to get back into the national team.”

Eleven of the starting XV are home-based players, eight of which ply their trade at Firhill with The Biggest Team in Glasgow.

Season ticket holders for the Warriors will be granted free entry using their season ticket booklet (a voucher from the booklet will be redeemed at the turnstiles).

Those without a season ticket are able to purchase tickets - priced £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s, students and OAPs - by calling the ticket centre on 0844 800 3490 (open Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm), online at www.scottishrugby.org

Those that can’t make it along can catch the game live on BBC ALBA (Sky channel 168 and Freesat channel 110) from 6pm. The game will also be live online at bbc.co.uk with commentary coming from the BBC Radio Scotland team.
