Jon Welsh is a loose-head prop who offers plenty in both the tight and loose aspects of the game. A former electrician, he was signed by Glasgow Warriors after successful appearances for Scotland in the club international against Wales and Ireland in February 2008. His Scotland A debut followed in the 38-7 win against Tonga at Netherdale, Galashiels, in November 2009. Since his debut he has played a key role in two more Scotland A games against Ireland A and Italy A. Before signing a professional contract he had had three seasons with Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians, and before that he was with Whitecraigs. Throughout his GHA career he was a key figure for his all-round performances not just in his basic role at loose head, though it was on the other side of the front row that he played his two club internationals. Honours: Scotland A, Scotland Club International |
