A record 5,231 crowd turned out to see the Warriors make one final push into unchartered territory at Firhill Arena tonight as they looked to beat English giants Saracens and progress to the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup for the first time.

After the game, Warriors captain Alastair Kellock said: "The biggest frustration for us is that we handed Saracens their two tries - and that was the difference.

"In terms of effort and application, I could not have asked for any more from my guys, but we let ourselves down when it came to making mistakes and executing certain decisions.

"Considering what we have put into the campaign physically and mentally, it is hugely disappointing to finish like this."

Despite the heavy rain in the west of Scotland over the previous two days the match kicked off in dry conditions, although the swirling wind made conditions tricky.

The hosts knew they needed a bonus-point win to have the best chance of going through and they were the first to threaten.

The boot of Dan Parks proved ever reliant as he slotted four penalties during the eighty minutes.

Argentinean fullback, Bernardo Stortoni, also continued to be one of the Warriors’ most effective backs as he crossed the line for the Warriors’ only try, Stortoni receiving a nicely timed pass from Thom Evans who cut a nice angle from deep.

However, three penalties from stand-off Glen Jackson gave Saracens the perfect platform from which to build their momentum.

Fullback Brent Russell and Jackson both crossed the whitewash for the visitors with Jackson slotting a conversion to add to his tally.
