A win for the Warriors tonight would have made it an unbeaten calendar year at home, but their Welsh bogey team, Newport Gwent Dragons, were their undoing. The Dragons have now beaten the Warriors in all but one meeting of the two sides. Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, was suitably frustrated with the result: “We made too many basic errors. These guys are meant to professional rugby players and passing and catching seems to be beyond some of them.
“No disrespect to the Dragons but they did nothing. They didn’t win the game, we lost it.” He added: “On a positive note, it was fantastic to see Kevin Tkachuk back. He played well and made a real impact when he came on.” An impressive early kicking display from Scotland international stand-off Dan Parks gave Glasgow the lead but the Dragons hit back with a try from flanker Joe Bearman which Ceri Sweeney duly converted. A cross-field kick from Sweeney put fullback Bernardo Stortoni under pressure. Deliberately killing the ball saw the Dragons awarded a penalty which they took quickly and sent Bearman in beside the left post. Sweeney then went onto slot two penalties, one either side of half-time, before Sam Pinder pulled a try back for the hosts just before the hour mark, substitutes Alastair Kellock and Kevin Tkachuk linking nicely to put the scrum-half away. However, it was Peter Sidoli who crossed the line ten minutes later to seal the win despite a late penalty from Parks.
