Match Report

Glasgow Warriors reversed last weeks defeat to city rivals Edinburgh by running out victors in today’s home clash in front of a record home crowd at Firhill. The Warriors also lifted themselves to third place in the Magners League, just four points off top spot.

Edinburgh emerged better off from some firey opening exchanges as prop Geoff Cross touched down in the 12th minute. Phil Godman converted.

However, the Warriors struck back with two penalties and a drop goal from Dan Parks to edge in front.

Then, three minutes into a ten minute injury-time period, centre Graeme Morrison crossed the line. An incisive break from scrum-half Sam Pinder saw Glasgow burst into life. Winger Thom Evans ensured the attack kept its continuity before Morrison barged over. Parks converted.

Parks then kicked a late drop goal to give the Warriors a 12 point advantage at the break.

Parks and his opposite number, Phil Godman, exchanged penalty attempts at the beginning of the second period. However, as Godman slotted both of his, the posts failed to find Parks’ radar.

He made amends for his errors with his third and final penalty before leaving the field in the 62nd minute to make way for youngster Ruaridh Jackson, who found the scoreboard eight minutes later with a nicely taken long range penalty.

With Edinburgh pushing for the losing bonus point, the Warriors defence finally cracked five minutes into injury time as Ben Cairns crossed. Godman converted.
